Mama, I’m Going To New York!

Happy Monday everyone!!!

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know I will be traveling to New York City next week with blogger babe Elly, for the Ego Soleil SS 2017′ preview show. Needless to say I am super excited for this trip and am already counting down the days.

You know who else is pretty excited? My mom! Yep, she literally teared up when I told her about it.  She mentioned to me how she remembers little 12 year old me watching tv and telling her that one day I would go to NYC for Fashion Week or something related to fashion.

But this is not why she got so teary eyed, you see (and for all of you who don’t know) I dealt with extreme anxiety and panic attacks for most of my pre-teen & early teen years. Those of you who know me on a personal level know how terrible those years were. Panic attacks were a daily occurrence and landed me in the ER at least twice a month.  Doctor’s appointments at least once a week & enough unnecessary medication for at least two years.

I was as frail as a six year old at 13 and my emotional well being depended on having my mom by my side 24/7. Mom was always so worried about what my future would look like as a young adult. I literally couldn’t function without her. It’s like she was my comfort blanket. The only time I wasn’t getting a panic attack was when she was beside me.

Eventually I overcame, finished high school, married & had a baby. And if you read this post then you know that’s when the anxiety/depression returned. It was Erick who I depended on now, Y’all I couldn’t do the 5 minute drive to my parents house without losing control. I couldn’t take my son to his check-ups, couldn’t do grocery shopping, or even hang out with friends. I couldn’t function as an adult.

Where am I going with this? I promise I haven’t gone off subject, haha. See, all this affected me greatly, but little did I know it affected mom even more. So for her, seeing her frail little Lilly being so “independent, hardworking, driving around town for meetings and events with two children in tow, an FLYING to NEW YORK on her own” is a HUGE DEAL.  It’s something that at some point she thought impossible. It gives me so much joy to see how proud and happy she is for me. After all, I am a mother myself and can only imagine everything my beautiful mama had to endure all those years.

Thank you for your unconditional love and never-ending patience, mom. I love you and appreciate you more than words can say. And hey mama, I’m going to New York!!!!!!

Anxiety and panic attacks are a serious mental condition. One that can completely take over your life and that of those around you. If you’re going through this now or know anyone who is, don’t loose hope. There is a light at the end of a tunnel. Surround yourself with those who love you most, seek the help you need & most importantly, seek God because there’s nothing too big for Him♥ And if you need a friend, I’m here. I promise I understand what you’re going through.

Thank you to my friends E&J and to everyone in our church group for being so understanding and for encouraging me to speak about this issue that till this day, sits heavy on my heart. I love you guys!

Ok now for the fashion…How cute are these flats you guys?? Just like the heels I showed you last week, these leather flats are part of Banana Republics’ New Fall Arrivals. Ahh just the color of them has me itching for a cozy matching cardi and maybe a pumpkin spice latte, too soon? Ok I’ll calm down.

I hunted this dress down all around town! Haha, a little silly I know but it’s just so cute I had to have it. Luckily for you, it’s still available online and I have linked it at the bottom of the post;)

These two together are the perfect early fall weekend look. I couldn’t layer a cardi over it just yet (it was seriously over 100 degrees when we shot these) but it will be so cute once it starts to cool down a bit.
