You Guys Know how much I love my denim. I think I probably wear denim 95% of the time and I’m completely ok with that. Now don’t get me wrong, I totally like dressing up in a pretty dress from time to time, but mostly for special occasion and holidays. That is until now!

I recently partnered up with J.Crew & Who What Wear to take on the Style Challenge, you can read more on that here. The challenge made me think outside the “denim wearing box” and your girl here wore a dress for a brunch date with the boys! Seriously, even they were surprised and asked things like “mom are you going somewhere special or something?” See they know mama usually only wears dresses to special events. haha! I’m so glad this challenge helped me realize that I can totally rock a feminine look for a casual day out without all the pink hues & frills. And so can you! Here’s 4 style tips I learned from my Style Challenge

  1. Keep your look monochromatic – for me it was obviously black. I love that black makes me feel both chic and edgy no matter what I’m wearing. Plus a monochromatic palette will allow room for a statement accessory that will not have to fight for attention in a sea of color.
  2. Ditch the denim & opt for a dress – Often times us minimalists shy away from anything that’s too cutesy, including dresses. That doesn’t have to be the case. Opt for a simple yet flirty piece. I love how the drop waist made my look a little flirtier without it being too extra.
  3. Add cute shoes – Cute shoes don’t necessarily mean bright colors and flower prints. These J.Crew espadrille flats are adorable! I love the little tassels and how they give this look a bit more of a girly vibe. Again, without making me lose my minimal vibe.
  4. Accessorize – You know that statement piece I talked about up there↑? For me it was my all time favorite red hat. Yes, its bright red, but works perfectly with my muted palette. It’s stands out and pretty much makes this whole look. If you’re not into hats, a statement bag can do the trick. Since I had already added my statement pice with the hat, I went for a nude bag. This one from J.crew is the cutest!

Now how’s that for a feminine look;)
