It’s the season to celebrate, mingle and give, but the cold temperatures and twinkling lights of our holiday decor call for some major cuddling time accompanied by a nice cup of hot cocoa or in my case, Chocolate Abuelita. I love hot cocoa and there’s so many other brands out there that offer the most decadent flavors, but the little Mexican girl in me always goes back to the good old trusty Chocolate Abuelita. It’s so reminiscent of my childhood and brings back so many warm memories of my siblings and I growing up during the holiday season. My mom used to just use the two basic ingredients, which are milk & chocolate of course. But as I’ve grown up (and married a man who LOVES coffee) the recipe has changed quite a bit……
I have typed up the recipe for you guys below. I encourage you to try it TONIGHT! It’s simply delicious (trust me on this one) and so easy to make. You’ll be wondering why the heck where you drinking plain old cocoa your whole life, LOL.
2 cups of 2% milk (can sub with whatever you prefer)
1 Tablet of Chocolate Abuelita (found at most grocery stores in the Hispanic foods section)
Candy Canes (for stirring)
Bring milk to a boil and add chocolate tablet immediately. Let simmer for approximately 5 minutes or until chocolate tablet is completely dissolved. Meanwhile, in your 2 favorite mugs, add 1/2 tbsp of your favorite instant coffee. Pour hot chocolate in & stir. Add Vanilla extract to taste, dress up with whip cream and sprinkle with cinnamon! * For an extra hint of that chocolaty taste, shave a bit of another chocolate tablet on top with a cheese grater or whatever you’ve got in hands reach. ENJOY!!
