You know those days when you just feel like shit? Those days where you wish you could free yourself from the everyday pressures and responsibilities of adulthood, crawl into your bed, sleep all day and dream about being a kid again? Yup, I had one of those (or three) over the weekend. Life can get pretty overwhelming at times, but it’s up to us to make the best of it.
I wanted to quickly share with you all a few things that help me get into the right mind set on days like these & just remind you that we are all human. That it’s okay to take a break, and not be so “perfect” all the time.
Go For a Run – Running for even just 10 minutes can do so much for your mood & stress levels! I love outdoor cardio the most. The fresh breeze gives me so much clarity & tranquility. But a quick session on the treadmill does the job & is equally beneficial.
Eat Healthy – Having a bowl of steel cut oats in the morning, and a fruit salad or smoothie for lunch will not only give you that extra boost of energy but will help you feel less shitty and lazy.
Get Dolled Up – Even if you don’t plan on leaving the house, get up, get dressed & put on your makeup. This will for sure give you a little mood boost.
Be Positive – This for me is the most important thing of all. Have you ever heard the phrase “You are what you think” Well, it is 100% true! I know this because I’ve dealt with extreme anxiety most of my life ( but that’s another story) and have learned that the mind is the source of everything. You have the power to control your thoughts, therefore you have control over the worst of days.
Take a Break – It’s totally okay to take a break! I’ve learned to relax a little and not panic if the boys have to eat chicken nuggets out the freezer for dinner (yikes). Or if the laundry gets done a day later. Chores will eventually get done…am I right?
These are just a few of the things that usually help me get through a rough day. I hope you find them helpful and try to implement them when you’re feeling down. And always remember, that it’s okay to NOT have it together 100% of the time.
